Razna National Park

Razna National Park was established on 1 January, 2007 in order to preserve the natural diversity of RaznasLake and its surrounding. In order to preserve unique landscapes of Latgale and cultural and historic heritage, facilitate education about ecology and nature tourism.

Raznas National Park was established on the basis of Raznas Natural Park. The total area is 59615 hectares. Three functional zones are established in the park: arkā ir

  1. Nature protection zone
  2. Natural park zone
  3. Neutral zone

Ezezers Lake is the most picturesque lake of the Razna National Park. It has 26 islands that are populated by broad leaved trees and fir-trees forests. There are several fountains that are rich with mineral substances.

The park is characterized by a wide diversity of birds. Here, there are unique protected species of birds. Here live also all the mammal species that inhibit the territory of Latvia.

There are many animals that are listed in protective normative acts of European Union: flitter-mouse, beaver, wolf, otter, wild marten, pond frog, frog, lizard.

Razna Lake has the widest diversity of fishes. There are 27 species of fish that amounts to almost 90% of the fish species in Latvia. Three species - are especially protected in Latvia.

On the territory of Raznas National Park there are also 10 especially protected spineless species.
